How to use a Konjac sponge for the face?

Konjac sponge is super easy to use. The sponge is very hard when its dried. That’s why before applying it on your face, you have to make it softer by soaking it in a bowl of lukewarm water.

Step 1: Take a small bowl with lukewarm water (not too hot) and soak the Konjac sponge in the bowl for 5 mins. Yes, you have to do this process every time. Otherwise, the sponge is too hard to apply on the face.

For first time users: it might take approximately 10-15 mins for your sponge to get completely soft.

Step 2: Gently squeeze out the water out of the sponge.

Step 3: Now, you can use the sponge only with water or with your cleanser too. Depends on you.

If you are like me, who like to do double cleansing: apply the cleansing balm/ any type of cleanser on your face. Then gently massage your face with the sponge. The massage with the sponge should always be in a circular motion, starting from the center of the face. Then wash your face with a splash of water.

If you want to use the Konjac sponge with water alone: gently massage the sponge on your wet/damp face for like 1 min and then wash with water.

Step 4: Gently clean the sponge with fresh running lukewarm water. Squeeze out the water gently and let it air dry.

How does Konjac sponge for face work?

Konjac Sponge has the ability to hold water pretty well.  As soon as you soak the sponge in the bowl of water, it starts absorbing the water. After a while, the sponge gets saturated and a layer of water covers the surface of the sponge.

When you bring the sponge in contact with the skin, the water layer on the sponge’s surface makes a barrier between the sponge and the skin. As a result, the sponge doesn’t damage or leave any scratch on the outer layer of the skin. And exfoliates the skin gently.

On top of that, the wet Konjac sponge is slightly alkaline in nature which neutralizes the excess acid present on skin barrier.

Konjac sponge works really well as an exfoliator. It helps to break down blackheads, dirt, oil, and rinses them away. As a result. your skin feels fresh and clean.

Can I use Konjac Sponge every day?

Konjac sponge is a very gentle exfoliator. I mean think about it, people used this on baby skin. So of course, you can use it daily.

The sponge has no extra chemicals, or preservatives added to it. It removes the dead cells in the most gentle way possible. That is why this sponge is one of the best ways to exfoliate sensitive skin. Not only that, oily and acne-prone skin will also benefit from it!

Acne-prone skin can also benefit from Konjac sponge.

Having said that, if you have sensitive skin or damaged skin barrier, I would still not recommend to use it every day!

Why? Cause I just don’t think it’s necessary. Maybe 4-5 times in a week but not every day. Why go extra when little works too?

How do you sterilize a Konjac sponge?

The best way to disinfect the sponge is to soak the sponge in bowl with hot (not boiling) water for about three to five minutes.

Konjac sponge will not work if you clean it in boiling water as that damages the natural fibers
Using boiling water will damage the sponge’s natural ingredients

Never use boiling water to disinfectant the sponge cause it might damage the sponge’s natural vegetable fibers.

Gently then drain the water from the bowl. Let the sponge cool down before squeezing the excess water from inside of the sponge. Finally, hang it to air dry.

This whole process should be done at least 1-2 times in a month.

Pro tip: Always replace your Konjac sponge after 1-2 months. It depends on how frequently you are using it but you should never use it for more than 2 months.
