Anti-aging product review 2020: I tried No7 Early Defence Glow Activating Serum for 7 days

Who likes to look old and all wrinkly? NO ONE! With the pressure of appearing beautiful and young on every social media, people are now willing to go to any extent and stop their skins showing any signs of aging. That’s how the anti-aging creams came into the industry.

Don’t get me wrong, I have no problem with either anti-aging creams or the people who buy them. In fact I am one of them (guilty!). I literally lose my sleep if I see a tiny sign of wrinkle.

So, I was looking for a good anti-aging cream for myself and I came across “No7 Early Defence Glow Activating Serum” which I am going to be reviewing now. Yayy excited!!!

A bit about the brand…

No7 is a UK based skin care, cosmetics and anti-aging product company. They have been in the industry since 1935 (damn!) and owned by Boots UK.

Providing good skin care and makeup is their major goal as they believe a woman need both of these to have great confidence….nice!

The product and it’s star ingredients…

So the name of the product as you already know is “No7 Early Defence Glow Activating Serum”. It is an anti-aging serum. The serum is aimed to give you a young, radiant and glowing look in 7 days.  The product is instructed to be used after cleansing and before moisturizing. Just take a small amount on your palm and evenly distribute on your face and neck, and Viola!

This serum has a lot of interesting ingredients. But the 3 most important ingredient groups according to me are :

Peptides : Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1, Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7

Antioxidants : Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Panax Ginseng Root Extract

Exfoliants: Salicylic Acid

Want to know the best part? The product has few other important ingredients like hydrolyzed rice protein for the purpose of hydration which makes this product worth a try.

Chunk of science …

Looking at the ingredients, as a Chemist, I was quite convinced to buy it. It has a combination of peptides and antioxidants along with a the superstar ingredient Salicylic acid.

Now there is a lot of hype about peptides and their anti-aging effects. However, most of the people still don’t know how the anti-aging thing works. Let me make it easy for you (time for a bit of Chemistry).

As we grow older, our skin which is composed of collagens (form of protein) starts losing it. The collagen helps our skin to stay firm and tight. With age, the production of collagen gets slower. As a result our skin starts looking dull and wrinkles appear. There are several other reasons why the collagen might not be produced by the skin and aging is one of them.

You might be wondering, what is the purpose of peptides here?

Bear with me girl! When you apply peptide topically, it sends a False Alarm to your skin, saying that it has lost collagen. Your skin gets fooled and starts making more collagen to compensate the whole situation. As it produces more collagen, your skin gets better and youthful. Who knew a big lie can save your skin, huh?

This is crazy I know, but is it that simple? Of course not. Peptides are very specific and can’t work alone. They need supporting friends (read ingredients) to make your skin better. Thus when peptides are combined with antioxidants or skin replenishing ingredients like salicylic acid, they work more efficiently and work together as anti-aging agents (hail team work!).

The product has some other key ingredients which are good for skin’s moisturizing for instances, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol and Propylene Glycol.

My personal experience…

Okay enough of talking here and there! The purpose of writing this entire thing is to enlighten you guys about the product and here I go…

I applied this product after cleansing and toning for 7 days as a part of my night skin care routine. I can say I really saw the difference. It made my skin very smooth and polished. I loved the effect it had on my skin.

The good things:

  • Very lightweight and has no fragrance at all
  • You need a dime size of the product and can apply all over the face and neck
  • Silky and smooth texture
  • Combines all the good ingredients together
  • You can use a moisturizer on your skin afterwards and it doesn’t make the skin greasy

The “not so” good things:

  • If it were a bit cheaper, I would have loved it more
  • For people who are already using other anti-oxidants or peptides, they might not see any significant change

Would I recommend it?…

Yes of course, especially to those who are too lazy to research and make a healthy anti-aging skin care routine. The best thing is I applied the serum just for 7 days and I could see results! (Exactly what they claim!)

I want to add more thing, while applying this serum I was using this only as my night serum with moisturizer. Nothing else. so if you are alternating between products, things might be different with you.

To conclude..

I loved the No7 Early Defence Glow Activating Serum and definitely will recommend it. The amazing thing is it comes with almost all the best ingredients required for anti-aging. So if you want a shortcut to healthy skin, applying only this would save your time.
